Tiara Darnell
Tiara Darnell is the Owner and Executive Chef at Blaxicocina, Mexico City's first and only Black-owned Soul Food restaurant. Tiara is an ancestrally-trained chef who grew up cooking and loving on people through food alongside the matriarchs of her family. What began as a monthly Sunday Soul Food pop-up series hosted out her home has evolved into a community space in the heart of Narvarte with food and cross-cultural fellowship at center. At Blaxicocina she's blending tried and true family, personal favorite and traditional Soul Food recipes with Mexican ingredients and touches of flavors that celebrate and honor the delicious culinary traditions of this city, country and people that have welcomed her and other Black Americans for generations. Originally from Prince George's County, Maryland, Tiara also feels at home in Portland, Oregon, and in Morocco where she served in the Peace Corps from 2012 -2014.
