Episode 5: 2024 oregon state legislative session + tea on small business

Today we’re coming to you from South East Portland’s Happylucky creative studio.

What a week! PitchBlack was a hit! Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the event, and a very special congratulations to this year’s winner, Eric Knox and HOLLA School.

Portland

Oregon Capital Chronicle Deputy Editor, Julia Shumway walks us through her “Guide to the 2024 Oregon Legislative Session”, and explains what exactly the Oregon State Legislature is, how bills become laws, why we should care, and how we can get involved.

Tea

We talk small business ownership with Happylucky co-owner, Emily Stutzman. Happylucky is a queer-owned creative agency located in South East Portland (check out their Oregon Elections Campaign). Emily gives us insight into keeping afloat during the pandemic, why representation matters, and the pros and cons of being Portland based. Check out Emily’s TedTalk here.

Party

This week's top events:

  • Naya Native Made Snaggin'tines Pop Up - Saturday, February 10 from 11am-6pm. Features 12 of Naya’s Indigenous vendors. Go get yourself (or someone else if you must) a Valentine’s day present. There is also raffle!
